WASHINGTON– Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released today the following statement after the framework for tax reform was released: “Our current tax code is complicated, confusing, and full of special-interest loopholes. It has been 31 years since we have had major reform, and I am optimistic about the unified framework laid out today. Federal excise taxes for all beer importers and for brewers of more than two million barrels annually are currently $18 per barrel. Brewers that produce less than two million barrels annually are taxed at a rate of $7 per barrel for their first 60,000 barrels, significantly decreasing their effective tax rate. While this reduced tax rate has successfully encouraged new entry into the market, it unintentionally created a barrier to further growth. Today, Representatives Steve Womack (R-AR-3) and ... These days, Congress doesn't agree on much. But there is bipartisan support in Washington for comprehensive tax reform. In May, the House passed a budget resolution that set forth our vision for reform. It called for consolidating the six individual income tax brackets into two brackets, a 10 percent bracket and a 25 percent bracket, and lowering the corporate tax rate. Our tax code is a lot like our government - it's broken. It’s nearly four million words long. It’s riddled with lobbyist-loopho... Read more

“The freedom of private business to organize and operate for profit in a competitive system without interference by government beyond regulation necessary to protect public interest and keep the national economy in balance.” That’s Webster’s definition of free enterprise. And for far too long, the Supreme Court’s outdated Quill v. North Dakota decision has stood as a roadblock to this cornerstone conservative principle. In this 1992 ruling, the Court simply said that states do not have the autho... Read more
