Womack Votes to Fund Homeland Security

WASHINGTON, D.C. — March 5, 2026… Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) today voted in support of H.R. 7744, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2026. This legislation funds the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and related agencies—including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), U.S. Coast Guard, and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA)—for the remainder of the fiscal year. Enactment of H.R. 7744 would end the partial government shutdown affecting DHS.

Congressman Womack said, “Now more than ever, it is paramount that we secure our homeland. Our Coast Guard, border patrol agents, transportation security officers, and disaster response workforce require resources to protect our country from imminent threats. Whether it be at our land borders, in our waterways, through our national airspace, or in the cyberspace domain, the Department of Homeland Security keeps Americans safe and passing the appropriations bill to fund it is overdue and vital for our national security.”

Bill highlights

Bolsters public safety, homeland preparedness, U.S. national security, and border protections by:

  • Expanding resources to detect and disrupt the flow of deadly drugs, including fentanyl, that threaten communities.
  • Supporting partnerships with state and local law enforcement that enhance immigration enforcement and homeland defense to improve operational capacity.
  • Protecting vulnerable children through stronger investigations into exploitation, human trafficking, and forced labor.
  • Enhancing disaster preparedness, response, and recovery with additional grant support for firefighters and first responders.
  • Countering China’s influence by expanding the Coast Guard’s operational footprint in the Indo-Pacific.
  • Supporting the Coast Guard by funding their military pay raise.
  • Providing resources to counter cybersecurity threats.
  • Strengthening our TSA workforce and the technology they use.
