Womack Votes to Impeach Secretary Mayorkas for Violating Immigration Laws and Breaching Public Trust

Washington, DC—February 13, 2024…Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the following statement after voting in favor of the measure: Congressman Womack said, “Secretary Mayorkas is at the root of the dangerous border crisis. Our national security is in jeopardy because of his deliberate failure to do his core job of protecting the homeland. I voted to impeach him because he’s completely refused to comply with the law and breached the sacred public trust conferred on leaders of our Republic, putting American lives at risk.” The articles of impeachment are the product of a nearly year-long fair and comprehensive investigation into the unprecedented crisis at our southern border. After 10 hearings and over 400 pages of reports, the House Homeland Security Committee concluded that Secretary Mayorkas committed high crimes and misdemeanors by refusing to comply with laws passed by Congress and breaching the public trust. The resolution resolves that Secretary Mayorkas is impeached and refers two articles of impeachment to the Senate for trial:
