Womack Votes to Secure Southern Border, Strengthen National Security

Washington, DC— June 21, 2023…Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) voted in support of the FY24 Homeland Security and Legislative Branch Appropriations bills today, both of which passed out of the House Appropriations Committee. The Homeland Security bill includes critical funding to secure the southern border and counter China, while the Legislative Branch bill ensures Congress remains open and working for the American people.

Congressman Womack said, “From increased Chinese aggression to an open southern border ignored by President Biden and his Administration, our national security is at grave risk. The Homeland Security bill takes crucial steps to protect the homeland by funding border wall construction and additional Coast Guard Fast Response Cutters to counter China in the Indo-Pacific. Today we also advanced the Legislative Branch bill, which ensures Congress has the resources to be effective and efficient for the American people. Both bills secure conservative priorities while keeping the American taxpayer front of mind.”

The Homeland Security bill secures our southwest border by providing $2.104 billion for construction of physical wall along the southwest border, $496 million for 22,000 Border Patrol Agents (the highest level ever funded), restoring border security technology funding to the FY22 level of $276 million, and forcing Secretary Mayorkas to adhere to the law and build physical barriers immediately. It counters China and bolsters our national security by providing $335 million to procure four additional Coast Guard Fast Response Cutters to operate in the Indo-Pacific.

The Legislative Branch bill increases funding for recruiting, training, and retaining sworn Capitol Police officers and ensures adequate resources for Members to effectively serve their constituents. It also maintains funding for committees of the House of Representatives so they can hold the Biden Administration accountable by conducting vigorous oversight of the Executive Branch.

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
