Congressmen Steve Womack (AR-3), Rick Crawford (AR-1), and Bruce Westerman (AR-4) today sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry expressing their severe concerns with Canopy NWA receiving certification from the Department of State to resettle refugees in Arkansas. The letter reads, in part: “Although we are grateful for the heart behind Canopy NWA and the welcoming spirit that is a mark of Arkansans, we are gravely concerned with the vetting process as it stands, as well as the lack of coordination between the Department of State and the actual states resettling refugees. Congressional oversight has revealed weaknesses in our vetting process and agency concerns with vulnerability to terrorist targeting, and nonetheless, the Administration has moved forward with resettlement in concerned communities. As representatives of the people of Arkansas, we cannot support a program that brings refugees into our nation who could pose a national security threat.” Read the letter in its entirety here. Congressman Steve Womack has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011 and serves on the House Appropriations Defense, Financial Services and General Government, and Labor-Health and Human Services subcommittees and the House Committee on the Budget. ### |
