Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) today joined a bipartisan group of 242 House colleagues to pass H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act. H.R. 7 codifies the Hyde Amendment, which has barred the use of federal funds for abortions in Appropriations legislation since 1976. Additionally, the bill eliminates tax credits and subsidies for Obamacare health plans that include elective abortion coverage.
After passage, Congressman Womack released the following statement:
“On the forty-second anniversary of Roe v. Wade, like all of the Arkansans in Washington who today join tens of thousands from across the country to participate in the March for Life, I am proud to do my part in protecting life and the most vulnerable among us – the unborn. H.R. 7 advocates for life by ensuring that those who morally object to abortion are not financing it with their tax dollars. I believe making permanent this provision, which a majority of Americans support, is well overdue, and I applaud its passage and will continue to support policies that protect life and human dignity.”
