Womack Votes Against Democrats’ “Most Progressive” Legislation

Womack votes against Democrats’ self-described "most progressive domestic legislation in a generation," which includes blue state and multi-employer pension bailouts, measures explicitly barring states from cutting taxes, anti-work provisions, and fails to prioritize school reopenings

Washington, DC—March 10, 2021....Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the below statement after voting against the Democrats’ misguided $1.9 trillion partisan proposal. Only 9% of the legislation’s spending goes towards coronavirus health programs—with just 1% for vaccines—while more than 90% of the bill funds far-left political priorities unrelated to the pandemic. Womack previously objected to the legislation, wrote an op-ed on it, and delivered remarks on the House floor. Notably, the only bipartisan support seen was against the bill:

“Sadly, Democrats have imposed one of the most irresponsible spending packages of all time. Let’s be honest with the American people. They used the promise of a $1,400 stimulus as cover to recklessly finance their socialist agenda. Under careful examination, it’s very apparent that while supposedly purposed in COVID relief—a majority of this legislation has nothing to do with the pandemic. Instead of working with Republicans on targeted policy, Speaker Pelosi chose to borrow money from future generations to spend on a slew of far-left wants. We should be helping Americans get through a crisis, not leaving our children and grandchildren with mountains of debt for priorities unrelated to the coronavirus. By dangling shiny objects to distract from the true intent of their legislation, they’ve gotten away with a generational theft of a lifetime. It’s shameful.”

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
