Washington,
May 12, 2026
WASHINGTON, D.C. — May 12, 2026…Today, Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) voted in support of H.R. 2853, the Combating Organized Retail Crime Act of 2025. This bill would expand criminal penalties for organized retail and supply chain crime, in addition to establishing a center within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to coordinate related law enforcement activities. Congressman Womack said, “Organized retail theft is a serious and intensifying crisis that affects both Main Street shops and national retailers. Higher rates of organized retail and supply chain crime not only hurt these businesses’ bottom lines but also increase prices for consumers—a reality that hardworking Americans cannot afford. This bill builds upon the work I’ve done as Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Subcommittee, and I’m proud to support it.” In Chairman Womack’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 THUD appropriations bill, he provided the Office of Multimodal Freight Infrastructure and Policy a $3 million increase in funding above FY 2025 levels. This office is tasked with coordinating with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and DHS to combat cargo theft on America’s highways and rail lines. The bill text for H.R. 2853 is available HERE. Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee. ### |
