Womack Reminder: Nov 1st Congressional App Challenge Deadline for Arkansas Students

Third District middle and high school students are invited to showcase coding skills through app development; Submission deadline is next Friday, November 1st

Washington, DC— October 25, 2019….Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) invites students to register for the 2019 Congressional App Challenge before the November 1st deadline. The competition, open to Third District middle and high school students, aims to develop an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education. By encouraging our nation’s youth to pursue these abilities, Congress hopes to inspire the next generation of innovators and help build our pipeline of skilled workers.

Congressman Womack said, “Programs that promote STEM education are critical to ensuring that our next generation has the skills needed for the jobs of the future. This competition allows participants to innovate, get creative, and leverage science technology to develop novel applications. I invite all interested students to participate and look forward to seeing this year’s projects.”

The competition is open to all middle and high school students in Arkansas’s 3rd Congressional District, regardless of coding experience. Students can enter to participate as an individual or team of up to four people. Entrants can use any programming languages and computer platforms when developing their apps. Applications must be submitted by November 1, 2019 (11AM CT).

Applications will be judged by a panel of local industry experts. The winning app will be featured on the U.S. House of Representatives’ website and put on display in the U.S. Capitol. Last year’s winner was Ahilan Eraniyan, a student at Haas Hall Academy in Bentonville, who created an app to help farmers and scientists identify harmful and problematic insects.
