Womack Signs Defense and LHHS Appropriations Conference Report
Washington,
September 13, 2018
Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the following statement on signing the Defense and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (LHHS) Appropriations bills Conference Report. Womack was named a conferee to finalize the legislation, which includes funding to rebuild our armed forces, support medical innovation, and invest in a 21st century workforce. The Conference Report is expected to be voted on in the House later this month: “Today marks another step forward in Congress fulfilling its Constitutional duty of funding our government. From rebuilding the military and supporting our troops, to incentivizing the creation of breakthrough cures and enhancing job training programs, the final Conference Report makes critical investments to support the security and prosperity of our great nation. “This legislation recognizes the important role that our brave men and women in uniform play in protecting the homeland by providing them with increased resources, including upgraded equipment, a well-deserved pay raise, and enhanced medical care. As a veteran and conferee, it is an honor to ensure that our troops are armed with the tools they need to accomplish their missions. “It also addresses significant health and workforce initiatives. Responsibly investing in medical research, biodefense, and workforce training and education programs reflects our commitment to improving economic competitiveness and health outcomes for generations to come. I’m glad that the priorities I have championed as Vice Chairman of the LHHS Subcommittee were included in the final report. “It was an honor to be a conferee and represent Arkansas throughout the conference process. I thank my House and Senate colleagues for productive negotiations and look forward to seeing the final passage of this package.” Additional details on the final Conference Report can be found here. Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget and is a member of the House Appropriations defense, military construction-veterans affairs, and labor-health and human services subcommittees. Additionally, he co-chairs the Joint Select Committee on Budget and Appropriations Process Reform. ### |
