Womack Statement on Appointment as Conferee for Defense and LHHS Appropriations

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the following statement after being named a member of the Conference Committee to finalize the Defense and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (LHHS) Appropriations bills for fiscal year 2019:

“It’s one of the federal government’s fundamental responsibilities to provide for the common defense -- but we can’t do that without allocating the proper resources. Making critical investments to rebuild our military, enhance U.S. defense capabilities, and provide our brave men and women in uniform with the tools they need is vital to securing our great nation. At a time when the homeland faces new and evolving threats each day, we must continue to lead with strength and restore our military readiness.

“As the Vice Chairman of the LHHS Subcommittee, I will also continue to focus on advancing other important initiatives, including medical innovation and workforce training programs, during negotiations. These types of investments will improve the lives of families in Arkansas and across the country for generations to come. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Conference Committee to ensure that all of these priorities are met.

“I thank House Appropriations Committee Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen and Speaker Paul Ryan for the opportunity to serve as a conferee. I’m confident that productive negotiations will result in a safer and stronger nation for the American people."

The GOP Members of the Conference Committee include:
Rep. Steve Womack
Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen
Rep. Kay Granger
Rep. Tom Cole
Rep. Ken Calvert
Rep. Robert Aderholt
Rep. Hal Rogers
Rep. Martha Roby
