WASHINGTON, D.C. — August 26, 2025… Congressman Steve Womack (R-AR) today applauded President Donald Trump for signing an Executive Order (EO) to protect the flag of the United States and prosecute those who incite violence or otherwise violate our laws while desecrating this symbol of our country.
Congressman Womack said, “Year after year, I have championed legislation to hold accountable those who desecrate our flag—an act that causes deep grief to those who understand what it represents and, in many cases, incites violence and other unlawful behavior.
Congressman Womack continued, “The Stars and Stripes has flown over battlefields, stood behind civil rights leaders, and been draped over the caskets of fallen soldiers. It symbolizes the countless sacrifices made by those who came before us and those who continue to serve, all in defense of our rights, liberty, and security. I applaud President Trump for signing this Executive Order to restore respect and sanctity to the American flag and to ensure that those who violate it are held responsible.”
Congressman Womack concluded, “To further strengthen President Trump’s Executive Order, Congress must take action to amend the Constitution and explicitly prohibit the physical desecration of our flag, empowering prosecutors and law enforcement to uphold justice regardless of who is in the White House.”
This Executive Order follows Congressman Womack’s reintroduction of a constitutional amendment to restore the authority of Congress to protect our national emblem of freedom by prohibiting the desecration of the American flag. A companion joint resolution in the Senate is being led by Senator Steve Daines (R-MT).
