WEST POINT, N.Y. — May 24, 2025… Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3), Chairman of the West Point Board of Visitors (BOV), today joined President Donald Trump, Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll, Chief of Staff of the Army General Randy George, Superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy Lieutenant General Steven Gilliand, and other Army senior leaders at the U.S. Military Academy’s (USMA) graduation ceremony. The event honored more than a thousand young men and women, including six cadets from Arkansas’s Third District.
Congressman Womack said, “Attending and graduating from the U.S. Military Academy is no ordinary academic experience —it demands grit, determination, and perseverance. Four years ago, these students arrived at the Academy aware of the challenges ahead. Today, they stand tall, having faced those challenges head-on, and overcoming every obstacle to reach this moment: graduation. These leaders are now prepared to take their place in a proud tradition of service, following in the footsteps of the heroes who came before them. As Chairman of the U.S. Military Academy Board of Visitors, it is my great honor to commend them on this extraordinary achievement. Tysen, Leyton, Aidan, Gary, Luke, and Kale congratulations on your graduation. I have every confidence that you will continue to make your families, your fellow Americans, and the people of the Third District proud.”
During the ceremony, the cadets, who have undergone four years of rigorous academic, physical, and leadership training, swore their oath of commissioned officers to preserve and protect the Constitution and serve as leaders of character. Each newly commissioned officer received their second lieutenant “butter” bars and will now head to their first duty assignments.
West Point is the preeminent leadership development institution that is focused on educating, preparing, and training the next generation of Army leaders. The USMA Board of Visitors is charged with providing independent advice and recommendations on academy matters, including morale and discipline, curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and other issues deemed appropriate by board members. Womack was first appointed to the BOV in 2012 by Speaker John Boehner and first elected Chairman in 2017. He is currently the only congressional representative from Arkansas to serve on the Board of Visitors.
Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
