What They Are Saying: Third District Community Projects Lauded as Win for Arkansans

Washington, DC—March 11, 2024…Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3), a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government (FSGG), authored, secured, and voted to pass funding—which was signed into law—for Third District of Arkansas priorities. Below is what stakeholders are saying about these efforts and the impact they will have on our community.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation received $5 million to upgrade and expand AR-10/Greenwood Bypass and $5 million for the Highway 412 Corridor:

ARDOT Director Lorie Tudor said, “We are so grateful for the additional Federal funds that Congressman Womack has secured for two important projects in Arkansas. The addition of $5 million for the Greenwood Bypass/Highway 10 widening and $5 million for the U.S. Highway 412 Corridor will help to expedite construction. Both projects will improve mobility and enhance economic potential. The Department and the Highway Commission sincerely appreciate the Congressman’s support of Arkansas’ transportation and his efforts to provide much needed funding for these improvements.”

The City of Eureka Springs received $1.2 million for Black Bass Dam Rehabilitation:

Eureka Springs Mayor Robert “Butch” Berry said, “Black Bass Dam has been a historic part of Eureka Springs since its inception and the city came close to losing it. We have been working on trying to find funding for this before it was too late. This long-awaited project is finally coming to fruition thanks to Congressman Womack. We are excited to see it become a reality.”

The City of Gravette received $7,235,993 to expand the Gravette Sanitary Sewer:

Gravette Mayor Kurt Maddox said, “With the expansion of I49 right through the middle of Gravette’s city limits and a new state of the art Arkansas Welcome Center being built in Gravette on exit 100, these funds could not have come at a better time. This sewer project will also help with future retail expansion along I49 in Benton County.”

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Little Rock District received $263,000 for the White River Basin Study:

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Little Rock District Commander Colonel Damon Knarr said, “Securing initial funding for the comprehensive White River Basin Study is a big step towards analyzing and understanding how the various water uses in the basin can best serve the people in the region. USACE is collaborating with researchers at Arkansas State University to investigate and define the basin’s current hydrologic conditions and how water usage has changed since the dams, reservoirs, hydroelectric plants, water supply facilities, and minimum flow operations were put into service over the last 80 years.”

The City of Little Flock received $1,248,527 for repairs and improvements of the 13th Street Bridge:

Little Flock Mayor Jeff Van Sickler said, “On behalf of the citizens of Little Flock, I'd like to thank all members of the House and Senate for approving our funding request. I also want to express our extreme gratitude for the hard work of Congressman Womack and his team in supporting our efforts to repair a critical bridge within our community. This funding is crucial to communities like ours as we do not generate enough revenue to support projects of this magnitude, yet the repairs remain desperately needed.”
