Womack Congratulates Selection of Marlon Blackwell Architects to Design Global War on Terrorism Memorial on National Mall

Washington, DC— July 13, 2023…Today the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation announced their selection of Marlon Blackwell Architects of Fayetteville, Arkansas to design the Global War on Terrorism Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, DC.

Congressman Steve Womack said, "The unyielding devotion and sacrifice of those who fought in the Global War on Terror will be beautifully honored through the Memorial. It brings me great pride that Marlon Blackwell Architects from Arkansas' Third Congressional District is trusted to bring this unifying Monument to life. I have no doubt Mr. Blackwell will bring his tremendous experience and expertise, which we've been fortunate enough to see around the district, to our nation's capital. The Global War on Terrorism Memorial will display the gratitude for veterans of America's longest war and honor those who will forever be part of the fabric that makes America strong."

Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation President and CEO Michael “Rod” Rodriguez said, "Marlon Blackwell's impeccable qualifications, ties to the military community, and humble demeanor made him a fantastic choice to lead the design of the Global War on Terrorism Memorial. We are confident he is aligned with our mission for the Memorial to be a place for all Americans to honor, heal, be empowered, and unite. We are excited to see how he channels his passion for this project into a fitting tribute to all who have served and sacrificed in the Global War on Terrorism."

With Honor Action Co-Founder and CEO, GWOT Board Member, and Marine Corps Veteran Rye Barcott said, "The Global War on Terrorism Memorial will be a living memorial honoring the service and sacrifices of our veterans over more than two decades. With Honor Action proudly worked alongside the bipartisan For Country Caucus in Congress to establish this memorial in the heart of our nation’s capital. It is fitting that its design will be led by Marlon Blackwell, the son of an Air Force veteran, who understands the solemn responsibility of this project. I look forward to seeing his vision come to life — and to the day when the brave men and women who fought in the Global War on Terror are able to see their service recognized on the National Mall.”

Marlon Blackwell said, “It’s a great honor for our firm to be selected for the design of this new and important memorial for the Global War on Terrorism which will be in the shadows of the Lincoln Memorial. We hope it will be a place for reverence, reflection and restoration which brings solace, and points towards peace. We are deeply humbled.”
