Womack Votes Against Socialist Spending Spree
Washington,
September 21, 2021
Washington, DC— September 21, 2021….Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the following statement after voting against today’s legislation to suspend the debt ceiling, which would provide Democrats a blank check for trillions of dollars in new socialist spending. This legislation will not pass the Senate as written: “This situation is quintessential Pelosi-Schumer governance: dismiss good-faith negotiations and create a crisis as the sand in the hourglass runs out. They won’t compromise on anything—unless it’s caving to the radical left—but expect blind cooperation from everyone else. I don’t think so. For Democrats, this vote is about giving themselves a blank check to enable their socialist vision. They’ve quickly maxed out the credit card limit on the American taxpayer’s dime—but it isn’t enough for them. Their only plan is to exacerbate already untenable deficits and debt. We need fundamental changes to restrain government spending.” Womack has consistently advocated for solutions to fix the broken budget and appropriations process, which has failed the American people for too long. He co-chaired the Joint Select Committee on Budget and Appropriations Process Reform and introduced bipartisan, bicameral legislation to modernize and streamline current processes. Some of the reforms he supported would have prevented a budget crisis like the one the Democrats have created. Additionally, he called for moving to a biennial budget, ensuring realistic deadlines for Congress to complete its budget and appropriations work, and requiring a joint Budget Committee hearing on the Fiscal State of the Nation. Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee. ### |
