Womack Honors Arkansas Law Enforcement in National Police Week Speech
Washington,
May 12, 2021
Washington, DC—May 12, 2021....Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) today spoke on the House floor to honor the service and contributions of our courageous law enforcement officers during National Police Week. Womack’s tribute included recognition of our Third District heroes who have met their end of watch in the last decade. In addition to his speech, Womack also cosponsored the National Police Week resolution (H. Res. 386), which expresses strong support for the nation’s federal, state, tribal, and local law enforcement officers and memorializes the 394 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty during 2020. Watch Congressman Womack’s floor speech here. Remarks as prepared for delivery: “Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor the men and women in blue. “They have devoted their lives to keeping our communities and families safe. “Unflinching in this mission, even when faced with growing hostility and danger. “These guardians stand on the front lines – regardless of the peril to themselves – not for praise or glory – but to protect our citizens and uphold law and order. “And, no matter the situation, they answer the call of duty. “As I speak, Officer Tyler Franks of the Prairie Grove Police Department is currently recovering after being shot while responding to a disturbance. “He’s undergone multiple surgeries and has a long road ahead. Please pray for him. “Let us also pay tribute to our fallen heroes. “We honor the memory of Fayetteville Police Officer Stephen Carr who was assassinated simply because of his uniform. We recognize the quick action of Corporal Seay Floyd and Officer Natalie Eucce who immediately acted and stopped his murderer. “We also remember Sebastian County Deputy Bill Cooper and Corporal Terry Wayne Johnson, both of whom made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. “These are just a few examples of the real sacrifices and dangers faced by our brave officers each day. “I’m eternally grateful for all those who wear the badge and keep the Third District safe. “This National Police Week, I thank every noble law enforcement officer in Arkansas and across the nation for their dedicated service. “We salute you.” Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee. ### |
