Arkansas Lawmakers Announce $4.6 Million Grant for Northwest Arkansas National Airport

Washington, DC—May 12, 2021….Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3)—along with U.S. Senators John Boozman and Tom Cotton—today announced a $4,647,248 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for the Northwest Arkansas National Airport. The investment will be used for taxiway rehabilitation to support infrastructure enhancement and safety.

The members said, “There is no question that the Northwest Arkansas National Airport is a vital connecter and economic engine in our community. The breadth of its impact is easily seen through the millions of Arkansans, travelers, and businesses it serves. XNA is an integral part of our region’s infrastructure, and this strategic investment will fund needed taxiway enhancements to support the growth and operations of this premier facility.”

Northwest Arkansas National Airport Board of Directors Chairperson Sara Lilygren said, “We couldn’t be more pleased with the award of this grant. These funds are critical for the completion of the final phase of Taxiway Bravo’s reconstruction.”

The project will consist of demolishing, removing, and replacing nearly 3,200 feet of taxiway concrete, which is more than 20 years old. The reconstruction will support airport infrastructure and economic growth opportunities. The DOT grant will be disbursed through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP), which provides funding for the planning and development of public-use airports that are significant to national air transportation. This grant funding is in addition to already-released COVID relief and AIP entitlement funding.

Congressman Womack—who sits on the House Appropriations Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Subcommittee—and Senators Boozman and Cotton have continually fought for federal investments that improve vital infrastructure, create jobs, and support residents throughout the Natural State.

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
