Womack Opposes Speaker Pelosi’s Latest Multi-Trillion-Dollar Partisan Wish List

Washington, DC – October 1, 2020….Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 925, Speaker Pelosi’s latest political stunt that has zero chance of becoming law. The more than $2 trillion package is riddled with provisions that have no connection to coronavirus recovery:

Congressman Womack said, “Today’s legislation is déjà vu all over again. We’ve had months to negotiate and take straightforward actions like extending the Paycheck Protection Program. But, House Democrats remain stuck on trying to disguise their liberal agenda as COVID-19 relief. The scheme is all too familiar and again wasting valuable time. This is nothing more than another unserious, multi-trillion-dollar bill filled with provisions unrelated to the pandemic we face. We should be focused on fully implementing and amending past relief bills, narrowly targeting support to those who truly need it, and working to safely reopen the country.”

Background: H.R. 925 is a more than 2,100-page bill that costs $2.2 trillion. The legislation, which was drafted behind closed doors with no Republican input, contains many policies that are unrelated to the pandemic or would hamper coronavirus recovery efforts. These measures include mandates to federalize elections, provisions that allow illegal immigrants to receive stimulus checks, postal service and multi-employer pension bailouts, repeal of the SALT deduction cap, a directive to ban information on lower cost health coverage options from reaching Americans, anti-work incentives, and it also fails to address reasonable liability protections for small businesses.

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He serves as the Ranking Member of the House Committee on the Budget and is a member of the House Appropriations defense and transportation, housing and urban development subcommittees.
