Womack Statement on Partisan Appropriations Package

Washington, DC—July 31, 2020….Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, released the below statement after voting against H.R. 7617, the second partisan appropriations package brought to the floor by House Democrats. The legislation, which breaches previously negotiated spending caps and includes controversial and non-germane provisions, has no chance of being signed into law as currently written:

“No matter how House Democrats try to spin it, they are wasting time on partisan appropriations bills that will never become law. This package violates the bipartisan budget caps stated in law and overturns agreements to exclude poison pill riders made less than a year ago by both parties. It’s fiscally irresponsible and brings us no closer to fulfilling our constitutional duties. It’s time for the majority party to govern in reality. We need to work together to make difficult choices and properly fund the government.”

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He serves as the Ranking Member of the House Committee on the Budget and is a member of the House Appropriations defense and transportation, housing and urban development subcommittees.
