Washington, DC – April 27, 2020....Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) is reminding all Third District high school students that the deadline to submit artwork for the 2020 Congressional Art Competition is this week. Entries can include original paintings, drawings, collages, photographs, computer-generated art, or a combination thereof. To be considered, art pieces must be dropped off to one of Congressman Womack’s District Offices with a filled-out student release form by the below outlined dates and times.

Submission locations and due dates are as follows:

  • Harrison District Office (400 N. Main Street, Suite 3): April 29th by 5 p.m.
  • Fort Smith District Office (6101 Phoenix Avenue, Suite 4): April 29th by 5 p.m.
  • Rogers District Office (3333 Pinnacle Hills Parkway, Suite 120): April 30th by 5 p.m.

Competition judges will review all of the pieces and determine a winner. Submissions will also be considered for the People’s Choice Award, which will be decided by the public via online vote, and the Patriot Award, which honors a piece that celebrates and artfully represents American ideals. Congressman Womack will announce the winner, top 5 artwork pieces, and Patriot Award via press release on May 4th. The voting portal for the People’s Choice Award will launch on May 1st and be open until May 7th – the results will be announced via social media on May 8th. Due to the coronavirus, the originally planned art exhibition and awards ceremony events have been canceled.

Open to high school students around the country, the Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity for Arkansas students from the Third District to showcase their artistic talents. One winning submission from each congressional district will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. If students have additional questions, they can contact Congressman Womack’s office at (479) 464-0446.
