Arkansas Lawmakers Announce DOT Grant for Marion County Regional Airport

Washington, DC— May 17, 2019….Congressman Steve Womack, U.S. Senator John Boozman, and U.S. Senator Tom Cotton today announced that the Marion County Regional Airport will receive $963,315 in federal funding. The grant, which is awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), will be used to repave and update the airport runway. The project will include milling, crack repairs, asphalt overlay, and runway and taxiway markings.

Congressman Womack said, “The Marion County Regional Airport serves as an important transportation hub for local residents, businesses, and visitors. This funding will improve runway safety and ensure that the facility is meeting the demands of our local area. Smart investments that modernize critical infrastructure are vital to the future growth and economic success of our community.”

Senator Boozman said, “Modernized, upgraded infrastructure is vital to keeping any community economically vibrant and competitive. This grant will help ensure the Marion County Regional Airport’s runway is in proper working condition to maximize safety and efficiency. I applaud this investment and look forward to learning of the positive benefits it will generate for the region.”

Senator Cotton said, “The Marion County Regional Airport is a valuable resource to the area. This important investment will enhance safety for travelers and promote economic development in the region.”

Due to the age and condition of existing asphalt, the grant is critically important to ensuring the modernization of the runway and safety and security of travelers.

The AIP airport grant program funds airport infrastructure projects such as runways, taxiways, airport signage, airport lighting, and airport markings to strengthen our nation's aviation infrastructure.

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He serves as the Ranking Member of the House Committee on the Budget and is a member of the House Appropriations defense and transportation, housing and urban development subcommittees.
