Womack Votes to Uphold Border Security

Washington, DC – March 26, 2019....Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the below statement after House Democrats failed to override President Trump’s veto of a bill nullifying the border wall emergency declaration. Womack, a staunch advocate of border security, supports the President’s efforts to secure our nation:

“There is no denying that there is a humanitarian, security, and drug crisis at our southern border. Yet instead of working to secure and get operational control of our borders, Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats continue to prioritize obstructionism over effective policy. It’s a bad strategy – which is exactly why their latest effort to deny the American people a secure border failed. I remain committed to defending our borders and protecting U.S. communities.”

A few border facts and figures:

  • In February, U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported that more than 76,000 migrants illegally crossed into the U.S. That is a 12-year high.
  • On average, more than 2,000 illegal migrants are apprehended each day.
  • There has been a 50% increase in the number of gang members apprehended from the last fiscal year.

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He serves as the Ranking Member of the House Committee on the Budget and is a member of the House Appropriations defense and transportation, housing and urban development subcommittees.
