Womack Votes Against Democratic Funding Proposal

Washington, DC – January 3, 2019….Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the following statement after he voted against the partisan funding package proposed by House Democrats:

“The legislation put forth on the floor today by House Democrats clearly shows that they are prioritizing political stunts over workable solutions. Instead of coming to the table and negotiating in good faith, the Democrats have delivered bills that are non-starters. These proposals ignore the need for border security, responsible governance, and compromise – and there is no chance of them passing the Senate or being signed into law. It’s a reflection of Pelosi politics, plain and simple.

“Let me be clear, an open border policy that exacerbates the free flow of drugs, criminals, and human trafficking is not a solution. It’s time for Democrats to stop playing games with the safety and security of our nation. The fix is simple: secure our borders and fund the government. It’s not only our constitutional duty to protect our borders, it’s what the American people want.”

Please note: In addition to introducing partisan funding legislation, House Democrats also voted against H.Res 11 as the Motion to Commit, which would have added language to H. Res. 5 that calls on the House to not adjourn until the full government is funded and open again.

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He serves as the Ranking Member of the House Committee on the Budget and is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
