Womack Praises Passage of FY 2019 Defense Appropriations Bill

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the following statement after the House today passed H.R. 6157, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act for fiscal year (FY) 2019. This bill includes $674.6 billion for Department of Defense operations, personnel, readiness, and equipment modernization.

“In addition to increasing lethality across the Joint Force and providing strong support for our warfighters, this bill makes significant investments in Arkansas’s defense industry and acknowledges the important role Arkansas businesses play in supplying our armed forces. It also recognizes the critical role National Guard and Reserve forces play in our national defense. As a 30-year veteran of the Arkansas Army National Guard, I know firsthand that they are an integral part of our Total Force, and this bill provides robust funding to maintain their operational readiness.

“Providing for the common defense of our nation is Congress’s greatest responsibility. I am proud to join my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to support this bill and our men and women in uniform.”

Congressman Steve Womack has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget and is a member of the House Appropriations defense, military construction-veterans affairs, and labor-health and human services subcommittees.
