Womack Statement on South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc. Oral Arguments

WASHINGTON — Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) today released the following statement after the Supreme Court of the United States heard oral arguments in South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc.:

“For far too long, Congress’s refusal to act on e-fairness has disadvantaged Main Street businesses and local governments. And today, by refusing to consider commonsense legislation that has been redrafted and retried since I first introduced in 2011, we’ve put the problem in the hands of the Supreme Court, for now. Not only could this leave Main Street businesses without proper protection and local governments without necessary guidance to simply collect what they are already owed, but it could also bring chaos to the online retail marketplace. Regardless of what the Supreme Court decides, Congress will have to act. I am extremely disappointed that we have chosen to react rather than to proactively and thoughtfully lead on this simple issue of fairness.”

Congressman Steve Womack has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget and is a member of the House Appropriations defense, military construction-veterans affairs, and labor-health and human services subcommittees.
