Womack, Boozman Welcome Secretary of the Air Force to Northwest Arkansas

FORT SMITH, Ark. — U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) and Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) joined state and local military and community leaders in welcoming U.S. Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson to the Third District of Arkansas on Monday, March 26, 2018. Secretary Wilson was sworn in as the 24th Secretary of the Air Force on May 16, 2017, and visited the Natural State at the invitation of Congressman Womack.

Secretary Wilson began her day in Bentonville, visiting Walmart’s headquarters to discuss Walmart’s Veterans Welcome Home Commitment and company efforts to support veterans and military families. While at Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Fort Smith, Secretary Wilson received a briefing and tour of the facilities of the 188th Wing. After the visit she attended a luncheon with airmen of the 188th Wing. She later met with local business leaders of the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce.

U.S. Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson: “I was very impressed by the 188th Wing at Fort Smith and the work being done by our Total Force Airmen. I greatly appreciate Senator Boozman and Congressman Womack’s leadership and support of our Air Force.”

U.S. Senator John Boozman, co-chair of the Senate Air Force Caucus: “I am grateful that Secretary Wilson is spending a considerable amount of time in Arkansas to see how our state strengthens national security. As threats evolve and we ask more of our Air Force, the 188th Wing’s future-focused mission will continue to be a critical component to defend our nation and its interests. I was honored to participate in Secretary Wilson’s visit highlighting the capabilities of the men and women at Ebbing Air National Guard Base.”

U.S. Representative Steve Womack: “I would like to thank Secretary Wilson for visiting the dynamic Third District of Arkansas. From meeting with local business leaders to touring the 188th Wing, the visit served as a chance to showcase the district’s focus on serving our nation’s veterans and highlight the capability and importance of the 188th Wing to our military. I look forward to working with Secretary Wilson to support our men and women in uniform.”

Congressman Steve Womack has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget and is a member of the House Appropriations defense, military construction-veterans affairs, and labor-health and human services subcommittees.
