Womack Statement on the Passage of the Omnibus Spending Bill
Washington,
March 22, 2018
WASHINGTON— Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the following statement after the passage of the House amendment to the Senate amendment to H.R. 1625 - Consolidated Appropriations Act, which provides funding for the federal government for the remainder of fiscal year 2018. “By passing this omnibus appropriations bill, we are finally fulfilling our duty for fiscal year 2018 and providing critical funding for our national security alongside the largest pay raise for our troops in a decade. Both have been woefully neglected for far too long, and these essential dollars will allow our military to amplify end strength, address force structure, and increase acquisition to match expanding threats around the globe. “Funding the government is a fundamental duty of Congress, and yet, during my time here, we have failed to do so in full, on time once. Our budget and appropriations process is not working, and the American people deserve better. As co-chair of the newly established Joint Select Committee on Budget and Appropriations Process Reform, I believe we can do better. We will work for significant reforms that improve the function of our government and ensure we can always fulfill this obligation to the American people.” Congressman Steve Womack has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget and is a member of the House Appropriations Defense, Military Construction-Veterans Affairs, and Labor-Health and Human Services subcommittees.
