Chairman Womack Statement on Passage of the Bipartisan Budget Act

Washington, D.C. – House Budget Committee Chairman Steve Womack released the following statement after lawmakers agreed to a bipartisan, bicameral budget agreement. The Bipartisan Budget Act adjusts the spending caps for fiscal years 2018 and 2019, including a significant increase for defense. The agreement also includes funding for the government through March 23, 2018, paving the way for consideration of regular spending bills in the House and Senate Appropriations Committees.

“This bill isn’t perfect, but it does do a lot of good for the country, including boosting the investment in our national defense and improving resources for the brave men and women in uniform who serve on our behalf,” said Chairman Steve Womack.

“The passage of the Bipartisan Budget Act acknowledges that the current budget and appropriations process is not working. And so I’m encouraged this agreement initiates real talks that could reform the process and make it work better. In the days ahead, it is crucial that lawmakers continue to find agreement and always fulfill our duties and obligations to the American people.”
