Arkansas Congressional Delegation Requests EPA Field Hearing

Congressmen Rick Crawford (AR-1), Tim Griffin (AR-2), Steve Womack (AR-3), and Tom Cotton (AR-4) today sent a letter to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy requesting the agency hold a field hearing in Arkansas to examine the impact of its recently proposed carbon rule on the state, particularly the rural areas.

“In your proposed rule you identify four planned field hearings: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Denver, Colorado; Atlanta, Georgia; and Washington, D.C.  We agree with your decision to visit geographically-diverse locations to discuss the impact of your rule, but we believe you should hear firsthand the impact this rule will have on Arkansas,” the letters states.  “As you know, Arkansas will be required to cut carbon emissions by 45%, or 730 pounds/megawatt hours—more than any of your proposed hearing locations.  Such a sizeable cut will have an immense impact on how Arkansans work, travel, and live.”

The letter goes on to invite the agency to hold a hearing in Arkansas with impacted stakeholders and the Congressional delegation.
