Womack Statement on Vote to Stop Obamacare Fraud

On July 5, 2013, the Obama administration reported that systems to safeguard and verify eligibility for federal premium subsidies for health insurance purchased through an exchange are not in place and announced it would rely on self-attestation and sample audits for the purpose of distributing premium tax credits.  It is estimated that this could result in $250 billion of improper payments.

Today, the House voted on the No Subsidies Without Verification Act (H.R. 2775) to prohibit the distribution of premium tax credits and cost reduction subsidies before the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Inspector General certifies that HHS can verify household income and other coverage qualifications and is doing so.

After passage, Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the following statement:

“The administration has made it undeniably clear: it cannot implement Obamacare on schedule.  So instead, it is simply picking and choosing which parts of the law it does not enforce – like verifying exchange subsidy eligibility, ignoring the exposure to fraud to prop up this unworkable law.

“I am proud to cosponsor and vote in support of H.R. 2775, which reduces fraud and holds the administration accountable.”
