On Wednesday, Congressman Steve Womack was appointed to the United States Military Academy Board of Visitors by House Speaker John Boehner. Womack is one of four House members appointed to the board. The Board of Visitors, inquires into the morale and discipline, curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and other matters relating to the academy that the board decides to consider. Speaker John Boehner: “I am honored to appoint Steve Womack to this prestigious board. His distinguished accomplishments in uniform, his family’s long and impressive service to our nation, and his unique understanding of military leadership sets him apart. Steve is a valued and trusted member of the House and has earned this honor.” Congressman Steve Womack: “I am honored to accept this appointment from Speaker Boehner. Obviously, military service is important to me, and our work on Academy appointments is among the most important duty I perform. I am hopeful my experience with grooming future Army leaders will be of value to the Board of Visitors and thankful for this opportunity.”
Prior to his retirement from the National Guard, Womack commanded the 233rd Regiment—the Regimental Training Institute for Arkansas—including the state’s Officer Candidate School. He previously served as the Executive Officer of the University of Arkansas Army ROTC program from 1990-1996. Womack, himself, is a product of ROTC, having received his commission from Arkansas Tech University in 1979. Womack’s brother, Jim, graduated from West Point in 1977.
