Congressman Steve Womack released the following statement regarding the August Jobs Report:

“The unemployment numbers from August are frustrating but not at all surprising. A growing number of Americans continue to face incredible difficulty in the job market. For 31 months in a row (nearly three years), our country’s unemployment rate has been at, or above 8%. America can no longer afford to remain stagnant.

“I strongly believe that small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and it’s time we do away with the numerous burdensome regulations which are stifling small business growth.

“What’s more, the lack of an energy policy here in America is costing the country billions of dollars a day—money which could be used to create jobs.

“Throughout the month of August, I met with hundreds of constituents and listened to their concerns. I urge my colleagues to remember these conversations over the course of the next few months. These are real problems in need of real answers, but I have no doubt, that together, we can get America back to work as quickly as possible.”
