On Friday, Congress passed the Budget Control Act of 2011—The Boehner Plan—which increases our debt ceiling by up to $900 billion, guarantees $917 billion in cuts over ten years, and requires that a Balanced Budget Amendment be sent to the states.

On Friday, Congress passed the Budget Control Act of 2011—The Boehner Plan—which increases our debt ceiling by up to $900 billion, guarantees $917 billion in cuts over ten years, and requires that a Balanced Budget Amendment be sent to the states.

Congressman Steve Womack released the below statement following the vote:

“My Republican colleagues and I have made it our priority to end America’s drunken spending spree and to save the future of our children and grandchildren. It’s been said over and over—and worth repeating here— our problem is NOT that we are taxed too little; it’s that our government spends too much!  The BCA 2011 is our best chance to get something on the president’s desk for a signature that (1) stays an oncoming fiscal crisis; and (2) changes dramatically the course we’re on while further challenging this Congress to limit its ability to spend above its means with a Balanced Budget Amendment.

“This is the best step going forward for this great nation, and I urge the President and the Senate to take up the gauntlet so we can get America back on the track to fiscal responsibility.”
