With the passage of H.R. 1473, Making Appropriations for Department of Defense and Other Departments and Agencies for FY2011, nearly $40 billion will be cut from spending and the nation’s military and federal government operations will be funded for the remainder of FY11.

Thursday’s vote ends the debate over FY11 spending and allows Congress to turn their attention to other pressing matters including the 2012 budget.

Congressman Womack released this statement Thursday afternoon:

“Today, my colleagues and I made history by passing nearly $40 billion in cuts—the largest single non-defense spending cut our country has ever seen.  While I am aware of the tough road ahead, today’s passage was a step in right direction and I applaud Republican Leadership for accomplishing what their Democratic predecessors failed to do.

“These cuts are the first of many more to come because more should be done. More will be done. With FY11 behind us, we can now move onto the 2012 budget where our concentration shifts from billions in cuts to trillions.”
