WASHINGTON– A short term Continuing Resolution (CR) was announced by the House Appropriations Committee earlier Thursday.

For Immediate Release:

WASHINGTON
– A short term Continuing Resolution (CR) was announced by the House Appropriations Committee earlier Thursday. The short term CR will keep the government running until March 18, 2011, two weeks past the March 4th deadline, until a compromised is reached for the rest of FY11. $4 billion in spending cuts will be included in this CR.

Congressman Steve Womack, member of the Appropriations Committee, released the following statement:

“The House has acted in good faith in  responding to the overwhelming demands by the American people to cut spending, shrink the size of the federal government, and avoid a shutdown.  In historic fashion, the House honored its pledge to the American people last week with $100 billion in cuts.  If the Senate cannot agree on these cuts, it is not asking too much to agree on $4 billion in cuts for a two week continuing resolution.  After all, many of these cuts have already been targeted by Democrats and the White House.  Anything short of that is simply political posturing.  America deserves better.”
