Womack Votes to Support America’s Producers, Stop Burdensome EPA Regulations

Washington, DC— July 19, 2023…Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) supported the FY24 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill, which passed out of the House Appropriations Committee today. This legislation prioritizes funding for public safety, critical operations, and maintenance programs while reducing spending for low priority programs.

Congressman Womack said, “The Interior Appropriations bill prioritizes America’s energy production while clawing back job-killing regulations by the EPA. Blatant overreach is typical of this Administration’s agenda, so I’m pleased this bill repeals the flawed WOTUS rule and halts permitting requirements for livestock emissions. Our small businesses and farmers are the backbone of America. Policies need to help—not harm—their ability to feed and fuel our nation.”

Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies bill highlights include:

  • Rightsizing agency funding levels.
  • Expanding access to critical minerals.
  • Requiring oil and gas lease sales.
  • Limiting regulations by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), such as repealing the recent Waters of the United States (WOTUS) regulation.
  • Limiting abuse of the Endangered Species Act regarding species such as the sage-grouse, the gray wolf, and the lesser-prairie chicken.
  • Reducing funds for nearly every other appropriation in the bill, including eliminating funding for the Presidio and responsibly reducing the EPA by 39%.
  • Providing a $1.604 billion increase in discretionary funding for the Wildland Fire Management accounts at the Department of the Interior and the Forest Service.
  • Providing funds for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Bureau of Indian Education, and the Indian Health Service at or above the comparable FY23 enacted level.
  • Blocking restrictions on hunting, fishing, and recreational shooting on Federal land.
