Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The competition is open to all high school students in the Third District. The 2014 overall winner will be chosen by a panel of judges at an awards presentation and finalist unveiling, which will be hosted by Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum. The panel of judges will include Manuela Well-Off-Man, Assistant Curator at Crystal Bridges Museum, Dayton Castleman, Museum Manager at 21cMuseum, and Lee Ortega, Executive Director of Fort Smith Regional Art Museum. The event’s details can be found below.
This year’s submissions will be made available for public viewing beginning on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, until Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum. The winner’s piece will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The submissions have also been made available via Congressman Womack’s Facebook page, where the public can vote for a 2014 Congressional Art Competition “fan favorite” by clicking “Like” on the photo of the artwork through Wednesday, May 21, 2014. “Fan favorite” voting will also be available at the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum during normal business hours, which can be found on the museum’s website.
