WASHINGTON – On Thursday Congressman Steve Womack voted in favor of H.R. 1363 which cuts $12 Billion and keeps the government operating for another week. This bill also funds the Department of Defense for the remainder of FY11 ensuring that the men and women who defend our country get paid.

Congressman Womack released this statement following the vote:

“The important thing is that we were able to move off the House Floor today a bill that pays our troops, because I think it would be unconscionable for this Congress to allow a shutdown of the government further hardship those families whose loved ones are down range already risking their lives for our freedoms. The least we can do is to make sure that their families are spared from the political hardship inflicted on the American people.

“I remain cautiously optimistic that we can get something done that prevents a shutdown of our government, but we are making contingency plans in the event that that happens. I am hopeful that the House and the Senate and the White House can come to some agreement that prevents, what I believe is, a terrible worst case scenario.”
